Overhead 21
  • Year2020
  • Duration4'33 min

Sonic Warfare is commonly used by Western states as a form of strategic stress-inducing intimidation, which is geographically and racially determined. It is practiced only in zones of exception where entire populations, mostly Muslim, are subjectified as terrorist threats regardless of their daily occupation, profession or intentionality. The sound of surveillance and weaponized drones is present 24/7 in Palestine, Yemen and Pakistan, causing sleep deprivation, constant intensified fight or flight response, and PTSD. Overhead 21 is also part of Albuquerque’s solo exhibition Enter the Ghost - Haunted Media Ecologies at Nieuw Dakota in Amsterdam and has been installed inside a black building container that belongs to a larger installation on Media and Spectrality.

Supported by the Mondriaan Fund, the Amsterdam Art Fund and the Dutch Creative Industries Fund.

Part of the Ghosts & Apparitions - Online Arts programme.
