"There’s an intimacy to Faith And Branko that extends to the way the two subjects (and those around them) speak directly to Harte, as if she’s part of this extended family." – Screen Daily

As part of our upcoming autumn weekender, Rhyme & Rhythm, we're delighted to present the European Premiere of FAITH AND BRANKO / Faith i Branko plus a live online performance from the film's main characters, Faith & Branko.

This intimate story chronicles the relationship between musicians Faith and Branko over seven years. In 2011, Faith travels from England to Serbia to learn gypsy accordion. She meets Roma violinist Branko and despite language barriers, they fall in love through music. Captivated by their musical chemistry, they marry and take their duo abroad. As much as Faith is free-spirited and privileged, Branko is untraveled and attached to his family, but they each believe that the other will better their lives. The relationship is tested by the realisation of their differences and that music may be all they have in common.

"this patient film is strengthened by its charismatic central figures, whose openness in front of the camera adds drama to their romantic ups and downs." – Screen Daily

Screening Friday 30 October – 18:00 followed by a live online Q&A with the director Catherine Harte, in conversation with our Deputy Director Melanie Iredale. We're delighted to also welcome Faith & Branko, who will join us online for a special performance screened to our audiences. Leading Serbian Roma violinist Branko Ristic - ‘a performer that Paganini would be proud of’ [BBC Radio 3], and English ‘passionate nimble-fingered accordionist’ Faith Elliott [The Guardian] perform virtuosic original Roma-influenced music.

Booking information for both the physical screening at Showroom Cinema and our online screening of the film, is available here.

Presented in partnership with Live Cinema UK, supported by Film Hub North, proud to be part of the BFI Film Audience Network
