Kirsten Johnson (dir. of Camera Person and Dick Johnson is Dead) in Conversation

We were delighted to welcome back to Doc/Fest the acclaimed cinematographer and director Kirsten Johnson, whose 2016 film Camerperson was shortlisted for an Academy Award and won the Doc/Fest Grand Jury prize that year. Kirsten has worked on a host of prize winning documentaries including Laura Poitras’ Citizen Four and Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 and her latest film, the darkly funny and wildly imaginative Dick Johnson is Dead is now playing on Netflix. Blending fact and fiction, the film examines Kirsten’s own relationship with her father, and explores how film can help us all grapple with life’s profundity.

In converastion with with documentary filmmaker and Senior Lecturer at Goldsmiths Daisy Asquith (Queerama, This is Not Us, After The Dance), Kirsten discussess the making of the film, as well as looking back at her long and celebrated career.
