Decolonizing Documentary - 15:00 (BST) Thursday 8 October 2020
No filmmaker can possibly anticipate and respond to the entire gamut of diversity of human experience nor should they be reduced to only portray stories from their own communities. But with tone-deafness and white-washing making it all the way to Oscars and major film festivals - what can gate-keepers and filmmakers do to go beyond statements and apologies once the damage is done and instead have a conversation on preventable measures - questioning themselves and each other on whether the leadership of the film reflects the community and how it's ensured that the narrative is restorative and not exploitative?
